AP Latin Course and Exam Description
The key document for each AP course is the course and exam description. Start by reviewing it to understand the objectives and expectations of the course and exam.
Curricular and Resource Requirements
AP Latin curricular requirements:
The course is structured to incorporate the entire reading list published in the AP Latin Course and Exam Description (CED).
The course provides opportunities for students to practice and develop the skills in each skill category:
- Skill Category 1: Reading and Comprehension
- Skill Category 2: Translation
- Skill Category 3: Contextualization
- Skill Category 4: Textual Analysis
- Skill Category 5: Argumentation
The course provides ongoing opportunities for students to demonstrate comprehension of passages of Vergil and Caesar not included in the required reading lists and passages from other authors read at sight.
AP Latin resource requirements:
The school ensures that each student has access to his or her own copy of the required passages of Vergil’s Aeneid and Caesar’s Gallic War in Latin and the entire works in English.
Example Textbook List
Because world language instruction targets proficiency building, which can be accomplished in multiple ways with or without a specific textbook, the AP Latin course does not have a list of example textbooks that meet the curricular requirements of AP Latin.
